More about me:
Vera L. Quijano learned about Dr. Deepak Chopra, MD, in 1991 while studying Cell/Molecular Biology at San Francisco State University. While enrolled at SFSU, she became interested in salsa dancing as a hobby and was soon teaching at local colleges and community centers to people of all ages throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Quijano soon correlated the principles of Dr. Chopra’s Mind-Body Medicine Approach to healing, with the healing powers of dance, and decided to pursue The Teacher’s Path through the Chopra Center. Ms. Quijano soon completed the Chopra Center training, and proudly introduces herself as a Certified Perfect Health Educator, a program dedicated to the exploration of mind body medicine and Ayurveda. More recently, she achieved the title of Certified Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga instructor. This Chopra Center program is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School. (The Yoga Alliance registers yoga schools whose teacher training programs address minimum standards, and assures that graduates are well-qualified to teach the practicing public.) Ms. Quijano holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Notre Dame de Namur University in California, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from SFSU in Cell/Molecular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. She has been certified by test to teach dance by Dance Masters of America, Inc., an international organization of dance educators. Ms. Quijano's teaching style is based on her unique combination of formal education and Chopra Center training, in conjunction with her in-depth experience working with the general public as past community college Financial Aid Director, Scholarship Coordinator, and Student Activities Coordinator. Ms. Quijano is an experienced instructor who has taught thousands of children and adults science, health, tap, ballet, acrobatics, jazz, and salsa dancing in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1984. Currently, she is Adjunct Faculty at two of the three San Mateo County Community Colleges in California. Every year, she holds fundraisers for the Vera Quijano Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship Fund, administered by the San Mateo County Community College Foundation.
